Aren't all contact lenses the same?

I have dry eyes and allergies, am I a candidate for contact lenses?

If you are wearing contact lenses that are more than a few years old

you may benefit from a contact lens re-evaluation to see if you are wearing

the best type of lens for YOUR eyes. Incredible advances have emerged

in biomaterial engineering and surface chemistry, allowing scientists to

generate a new breed of contact lenses called silicone hydrogel. The

development of highly oxygen-permeable silicone hydrogel lenses is the

biggest breakthrough in lens material technology since soft lenses entered

the market in the 1970s. Not only do silicone hydrogel materials provide

ocular health benefits, they also allow people to wear contact lenses

longer, making continuous wear a healthier option.

Traditional soft contact lenses are made from hydrogel polymers (soft, water-containing plastics). The plastic itself is not oxygen permeable, so the water performs the job of carrying oxygen through the lens to the eye. But water can carry only so much oxygen — and the more water a lens contains, the greater its tendency to dehydrate after long periods of wear.  Silicone is oxygen permeable. So silicone hydrogel lenses use both their water and polymer content to transmit oxygen to the eye.

Silicone hydrogel lenses are healthier than conventional soft lenses because they allow up to 6 times more oxygen to pass through them and increased oxygen transmission results in better overall eye health. Advantages of silicone hydrogel lenses over conventional soft lenses include: more resistance to protein deposits, less drying of the lenses, and lower risk of eye infection. This advancement has allowed even dry eye patients the ability to wear contacts and to finally be glasses free safely and comfortably!

I wear progressive glasses, are there contact lenses that can help me read without having to put reading glasses over my contacts?

Our office carries many brands and types of the latest disposable silicone hydrogel contact lenses such as Johnson and Johnson Acuvue Oasys, Coopervision Myday and Biofinity, Ciba Dailies Total One, and many more. We are experts in helping patients who are having difficulty reading up close with their current contacts. We specialize in Bifocal and Mono Vision contacts to help you see your computer and phone without the need for reading glasses over contacts. We also treat corneal irregularities such as Keratoconus using the Jupiter Scleral Contact Lenses.

We also offer contacts for slowing down the progression of Myopia (Myopia Control). Studies show that we can reduce the advancement of nearsightedness up to 50% with these types of treatments. We also have colored contact lenses to enhance or change your eye color! We have all the latest Freshlook contact lenses, including Freshlook Colorblends! We also now carry the new light adaptive Acuvue Oasys Transitions contact lenses with UV protection!
